The school had identified a need for a playing area that was usable all year round, they had plenty of playing fields but no provision for artificial.
From a gently sloping green field, we started by removing the topsoil and carrying out a balanced cut and fill of about 0.5m. We were aware that the ground conditions were far from ideal and so after installing the sub-pitch drainage, carried out ground stabilization using a geogrid and a geotextile membrane. The stone sub-base was then imported and spread over the pitch, and the ground held up perfectly under the site traffic
The perimeter of the pitch and the access paths were then kerbed using concrete edgings before a 45mm depth of 10mm open graded macadam was installed using a laser guided paving machine to achieve the required tolerances.
A shock pad was installed over the pitch before the Greenfields LSR 20 synthetic turf was rolled out, glued and sanded.
The pitch is enclosed by a 3m high perimeter fence. It was specially designed for the school and incorporates a 358 panel to 1.2m with weld mesh above, and both a kickboard and hip board.
The school was delighted with the end result which was ready in time for the winter term. Brian Carr, Estates Manager says "From the outset Verde Recreo displayed a very professional approach.
