Description

Verde Recreo have been awarded the prestigious contract to build a 3rd Generation artificial turf pitch for the use of Nailsea School and the wider community. The project is the final part of the re-building of the school, which was carried out by Cariilion plc, in partnership with North Somerset Council.

The pitch will be 106m long and 71m wide, large enough for a full size football pitch. The pitch is required for both football and hockey use; to satisfy this, we shall be installing a Greenfields MT 40 SRD artificial grass. This is a 3rd generation, rubber filled product, which is suitable for both football and hockey use. It will be the first time that this product has been installed in this country and it has generated a lot of interest amongst the local football and hockey clubs.

The perimeter will be fenced using a 358 rebound panel to 1.2m, with a welded mesh roll to bring the height up to 3.6m. A 6 pole floodlight system will provide illumination to 350 Lux.

We are working to a 10 week programme and are looking forward to providing North Somerset with an outstanding sporting facility.

Project Diary

Laying some pipe work
fri 19 Feb 2010

The formation had been prepared by others, using the crushed remains of the old school buildings. So after setting out the pitch corners, we were able to crack straight on with installing the pitch drainage system.

Nice and straight
fri 26 Feb 2010

The drainage system was completed this week. We carried out the civils works for the floodlighting system and we made a start on the perimeter kerb race.

Tipping the stone
fri 05 Mar 2010

We completed the kerbing to 3 sides of the pitch this week and started rolling in the stone sub-base. This was carefully planned and managed around the restricted site delivery times.

Fencing posts on a Spring day
fri 12 Mar 2010

We completed the initial stone layer this week, and the fencing team started with the installation of the fence posts. We also installed a Chevlok retaining wall below one of the proposed goal recesses.

Trimmed stone sub-base
fri 19 Mar 2010

We completed the installation of the fence posts this week and installed detox areas in front of the two access points. The top layer of stone sub-base was imported and trimmed with the dozer, ready for the macadam surface.

Back in the black
fri 26 Mar 2010

The floodlights arrived from America, they were erected and connected in 2 days. The macadam gang were able to follow on and the pitch was black by the end of the week. Meanwhile the cladding to the fence was begun.

Laying the rubber shock pad
fri 02 Apr 2010

We beat the weather this week and managed to complete the installation of the shockpad, despite the frequent showers. The cladding to the fence was completed as well.

Rolling, rolling
fri 09 Apr 2010

The carpet arrived safely from Holland and our carpet team began rolling it out. By the end of the week, the pitch was green.

Line markings
fri 16 Apr 2010

With all the carpets glued, the line marking started. Lines for football, hockey and 7-a-side football were cut in and glued. At the end of the week the infill sand was being spread over the pitch.

The end product
fri 23 Apr 2010

The final push, our carpet team worked over the weekend installing the rubber infill and then groomed the pitch to perfection. With the goals installed, the facility is ready for hand over on time!
