We have replaced the worn out hockey pitch at King's School in Bruton with a state of the art, sand filled, mono filament hockey carpet. This is the first time this carpet has been laid worldwide. The project was completed in September 2010.
We worked alongside the Sports Staff at King's School, Bruton for a number of months, discussing how best to improve their provision of sports facilities. After careful consideration of all the options, they decided to have their existing sand filled hockey pitch refurbished and upgrade the existing fencing with new kick boards.
Having visited a number of newly built facilities, including Monkton Prep School, the school selected our 18mm nd mono filament hockey carpet. This surface has excellent playing characteristics whether wet or dry and will provide a fast moving game. King's School is the first project worldwide where this highly specified hockey carpet has been used.
The old carpet was rolled up and recycled as was the deterioating shock pad. A new 15mm pad was then laid before the new carpet installed on top. The pitch run-offs are in the school's colour (blue) providing a striking surround to the playing surface.
We cut up the old carpet into re-usable lengths, rolled it up and removed from site. The shockpad had gone very brittle and wouldn't have lasted another 15 years so this was scraped up and taken away. The pitch was clear by the end of the week.
After straight edging the existing tarmac base for level, we called the shock pad team to site. Despite some dodgy weather in the middle of the week they had made good progress by Friday.
The carpet has arrived from Holland and the installation team had the pitch greened up by the end of the week
Some unsettled weather slowed our progress this week, but we worked through the bank holiday to get the carpet jointed and glued.
Rain, rain go away. We have been trying to sand the carpet this week but need dry weather and a dry carpet!
