The construction of a multi sports facility incorporating 4 new Category 4 Netball courts and a 3rd generation football pitch all with fencing and floodlighting, along with a 1000m2 semi permanent sports hall with polyurethane sports flooring.
Starting with a green field site and a brief description of the clients requirements, Verde Recreo worked closely with the employer and client to design and deliver this prestigious facility. The client had sourced funding from a number of governing bodies including Sport England, the Football Foundation and the All England Netball Association. The project was the single largest Sport England funded facility in 2008. Working within a tightly constrained site and a challenging deadline, Verde Recreo managed this complex project ensuring all targets were met and a high quality facility delivered.
A 60mm thick 3G football turf installed over a shock pad and engineered base to provide a 60m x 40m football and training pitch. This was floodlit to 400 lux and enclosed with a 3m high twinbar fencing system incorporating a rebound panel to 1.2 metres.
The floodlit outdoor netball courts were constructed using a macadam surface to the exacting requirements of Category 4. These were divided into a block of 3 courts and a single show court and enclosed with a 3m high twinbar fence.
Rubb Buildings, a nominated sub-contractor, erected a 38mx24m semi-permanent steel frame sports hall, covered with a dual skin PVC material, onto a ring beam installed by Verde recreo. Inside this structure Verde Recreo installed a polyurethane performance sports floor suitable for multi sport use over an engineered base. This gave the club a world class indoor facility for a third of the cost of a traditional build.
As part of the contract Verde Recreo upgraded the existing club car park and provided access paths, roads and landscaping.
The facility was officially opened by Gerry Sutcliffe, Minister for Sport, on 21st October 2008.
